This is the moment the meadow starts to awaken with the soft stirring whisper, ‘Spring is here’. Dawn stretches its blissful golden rays earlier each day with the bird song melodies finding new heights of happiness to mark each day. The ground is thawing, although perhaps a little mulchy here and there still. The leaves begin to thicken within the hedgerow, blades of grass push through the soil. The bugs stretch their sleepy wings as flowers delicately unfold. The air is filled with the scent of renewal, as nature awakens from its long slumber, embracing the promise of the season ahead.
Winter often feels like the longest season for us, but it allowed us a moment to put down tools and put our energy into the plans for the new year… it also gave us the opportunity to lay a sparkly new car park with cycle stands now fit for use. With a big shout, cheer and thanks to Greenoak Contracts for their hard work and efficiency! Also, whilst on shout outs, we are incredibly grateful for the MSDC for funding 75% of the project from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and Combs Parish Council for 25% of the cost from their CIL money. Thank you also to John Matthissen our District Councillor who funded the cycle stands from his locality budget.
Our orchard is growing beautifully. We have just been donated an additional Catherine apple tree from Richard Frost of the Suffolk Tree Network (we have 3 now). The Catherine apple tree was first discovered at the back of the Live and Let Pub in Park Road, Combs and is, therefore, native to the village.
